Outdoor swimming in Brussels: Utopia or necessity? (NL)
Summers get warmer every year and Brussels residents crave refreshment but there is still nowhere in Brussels where you can legally swim outdoors. POOL IS COOL has been campaigning for accessible swimming spots in the city for ten years. They opened the outdoor swimming pool Flow in Anderlecht, which closed its doors this spring. The project for an open-air swimming pool in the Canal was also scrapped in May.
Paul Steinbrück (POOL IS COOL) and Gérald Ledent (professor, architect and initiator of a large public swimming pool in the Canal, UCLouvain) talk about how an open-air pool in Brussels can be a place where people meet, relax together, find social connection and refresh the city. Inspiring examples from abroad will also be discussed: why are such places important and why are they not yet possible in Brussels?
