In the new series of Stads Labos Urbains, we will explore topics chosen by you (through our online survey)! We want to confront academic and field knowledge in an informal, low-threshold setting. Interaction and exchange are central.
The first theme that came out of the survey was “Housing”. Other themes that scored high in the survey included “city for all ages”, “gender” and “care”. That is why we will host this session, about housing in Brussels, in the innovative Calico housing project (Care and Living in Community).
Calico focuses, among others, on the specific urban issues of housing for women and elderly people. This co-housing project for example includes specific facilities such as a house for birth and death. The project is implemented according to the principles of the Community Land Trust, an association that purchases land or houses in Brussels and makes them available to low-income residents. Calico is monitored and evaluated by researchers.
Calico offers a generational and social mix in interaction with the neighbourhood.
