NL/ Wat begrijpen we onder commons? Op welke terreinen zijn ze actief? Hoe verhouden ze zich tot de overheid, tot private ondernemingen en tot het private huishouden? Welke mogelijkheden hebben ze om de samenleving te organiseren? Waar schieten ze te kort? Utopie of realiseerbare werkelijkheid?

Een gespreksavond met o.a. Lieven De Cauter (RITCS – KULeuven) en Hanne Van Reusel (Joseph’aire, Sonian Wood) en het publiek.

Commons in Brussels: 5 online gespreksavonden, 5 donderdagen op rij. Telkens om 19:00.

Ze duiken overal op. Zeker in de stad. Zeker in Brussel. Commons! Een Engelse term die slaat op een groep mensen die samenwerkt rond een afgebakend ‘gemeenschappelijke goed’. Dat ‘goed’ kan van alles zijn: een collectieve composthoop, een gedeelde moestuin, een materiaalbank, een spaarkas…

De inzet van commons lijkt meer te zijn dan enkel een gezamenlijke vrijetijdsbesteding. Via commons nemen burgers de samenleving mee in handen. Commons positioneren zich op die manier naast de initiatieven van de overheden en die van de private markt.

Kunnen concrete burgerinitiatieven werkelijk een grote impact maken?

Tijdens 5 avonden gaan we in gesprek met burgerinitiatieven die hun ervaringen delen, met experten die grotere verbanden zien en met het publiek dat nieuwsgierige en kritische vragen mag afvuren.

Commons in Brussels: 5 online discussion evenings, 5 Thursdays in a row. All discussion sessions will start at 19:00.

They’re popping up everywhere. Particularly in towns and cities. And especially in Brussels. Commons! An English term that refers to a group of people who collaborate on some predefined ‘common good’. That common ‘good’ could be anything: collective compost heaps, communal vegetable gardens, material banks, savings banks etc.

Commons appear to be used for more than just communal leisure activities. Indeed, commons enable citizens to take control of society. Commons consequently position themselves alongside public and private sector initiatives.

Can specific citizens’ initiatives truly make a big impact?

During the 5 discussion evenings, we’ll talk to citizens’ initiatives that are keen to share their experiences, experts who understand the wider context and the general public who will have the opportunity to ask critical and probing questions.

FR/ Les « commons » : de quoi s’agit-il ? Quels sont leurs domaines d’activités ? Comment se profilent-ils par rapport aux autorités, aux entreprises privées et aux ménages particuliers ? De quelles possibilités disposent-ils pour organiser la société ? Que leur manque-t-il ? Utopie ou réalité réalisable ?

Commons in Brussels : 5 soirées-débats en ligne, 5 jeudis d’affilée. Chaque fois à 19:00.

Ils fleurissent de toutes parts. Surtout en ville. Surtout à Bruxelles. Les commons ! Un terme anglais qui se rapporte à un groupe de personnes qui collaborent à un « bien commun » délimité. Ce « bien » peut se décliner sous différentes formes : un compost collectif, un potager partagé, une banque de matériel, une caisse d’épargne…

La mobilisation de ces commons semble dépasser le simple passe-temps commun. Ils permettent aux citoyens de s’investir activement dans la société. Ces commons se positionnent ainsi en parallèle aux initiatives des autorités et de celles du marché privé.

Des initiatives citoyennes concrètes peuvent-elles réellement avoir un grand impact?

Durant 5 soirées, nous entamerons le débat avec 5 initiatives citoyennes qui partageront leurs expériences, avec des experts qui inscrivent ces initiatives dans un contexte plus large et avec le public qui pourra poser des questions critiques et suscitant leur curiosité.
