#7. EXPATS & EUROSTARS
First, this evening about Europe in Brussels focuses on the significant presence of the European institutions settled in Brussels since 1958. This arrival was first discreet with some 300 officials. Today the five central institutions of the European Union housed in Brussels welcome more than 40.000 officials. This presence generated international logistics (lobbyists, regional representations, diplomats, other international agencies, international head offices, 150 law offices…) with almost 120.000 jobs. Without forgetting that Brussels is also is known for its dance and circus schools, the Conservatoire, artists’ residencies… This effectively encourages plenty of young European and international artists to come. Being or becoming capital of Europe is one of the missions of this city. How do the European expatriates become true Brussels inhabitants?
